Volunteer

Welcome to being a volunteer on the ‘docks’ of QueerHaven.

As a volunteer, your responsibility may include

- being a little extra aware of new participants

- making sure all participants feel included

- setting clear boundaries in social situations, if it’s needed

- helping set up or pack down at the events

- dragging a friend or someone you know to QueerHaven, if it feels relevant

- being the Navigator of the day, to help people find their way from the train station

- assisting the 3 responsibility-holders, if there’s something that interests you

- showing up online to the short monthly volunteer briefing 

No volunteer will be doing all of these at once, as we all have unique strengths that may fit to different things on the list. The 3 responsibility holders make sure that we disperse the responsibility among us, based on mood and what you excel at. You will never be asked to do something that you cannot or do not want to.

As volunteers we try to show ourselves from our best side. However, we also try our best to be honest and direct, and show ourselves, other volunteers and participants as much grace and patience we can muster. As a volunteer, participants may look up to you for guidance and support, but you must always remember:

You are here to be a fellow human, and that includes both strengths and flaws.
